Why should you bother with excerpts? Well, there are several compelling reasons. First and foremost, excerpts help improve the user experience by giving visitors a quick overview of your content. This allows them to decide if it’s worth their time to delve deeper into the post. In a world where attention spans are dwindling, providing concise and captivating snippets can make a significant difference.

Additionally, excerpts are essential for search engine optimization (SEOSEOSearch Engine Optimization involves optimizing various website elements to make it more attractive to search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo.

Now that you understand the importance of excerpts, it’s time to learn how to create them in WordPress. Fortunately, this platform makes it incredibly easy. If your WordPress themeWordPress ThemeA collection of files that determines a website’s overall design and functionality.

supports excerpts, you’ll find an option to add them while creating or editing your blog post.

and locate the Excerpt box, usually found below the content editor. Just type or paste your summary into this box, and voila! You now have a custom excerpt for your post.

But what if you don’t want to write a separate summary for each post? WordPress offers a solution for this as well. By default, WordPress automatically generates an excerpt from the beginning of your post if you haven’t provided a manual one. However, this auto-generated excerpt might not always be ideal, as it may cut off abruptly or not convey the essence of your content accurately. In such cases, you can use the “Read More” tag to control where the auto-generated excerpt ends and the full content begins.

To add a “Read More” tag, simply place your cursor at the desired location in the post editor and click on the “Insert Read More tag” button or press Ctrl+Shift+T. This tag acts as a break, separating the excerpt from the rest of the content.

Once you’ve added excerpts to your blog posts, you can customize how they appear on your site. WordPress allows you to display them in different lengths, depending on your theme and preferences.
